Issue #3 of the Quarterly Newsletter has been distributed to our tenants.    We've been busy, busy, busy getting the new location in Midwest City off the ground.   I wanted to let everyone about the project itself, and the Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting coming up on August 8th.  Big Truck Tacos will be there and much more!

Also there was a promotion this past quarter - Congratulations Zac Geary!  Don't forget to try the Magic Chocolate Ice Cream.  It's sooo yummy!

If you need HVAC work this summer, call Steven Crews ad stay cool in these dog days of summer!   As always remember our referral program.

Creative Cramming with Carin

by Carin Weigel, Resident Manager, Edmond location (1000 N. Santa Fe)

Tips & Tricks to organize and protect your Security Self Storage unit

Space – Select a unit based on what you need to store.  Your Security Self Storage Manager can help you determine the size space you need.  What will help is if you open the boxes and purge the trash from the treasures before moving them to long-term storage. Removing these items from boxes destined for storage can save a great deal of headaches down the road.

Also, the boxes that items are stored in at home are typically not ideal for storage facilities. Items tend to be placed in random boxes selected for convenience, versus long-term storage. What’s the difference? Boxes that are identical will stack better in storage space, thus creating more room in your storage unit. You may purchase these types of boxes from at all our locations at the office.

Shelving units that can be placed inside the unit are very helpful in keeping boxes organized and creating a structure to go up.  You always have height in your storage unit, not just floor space.

Protection – A little preventative maintenance can help protect items. First, categorizing items and cataloguing them while preparing them for storage will help in the event of a burglary, fire, etc. In the event of a burglary, a thief is on a short time table and will probably grab the most convenient items so make it more difficult for them to find true treasures. Store the most valuable items at the rear of the storage unit and number boxes instead of labeling them with their contents’ name. Your master list will detail their contents and that list will remain in your possession.

Another idea, try to store items on pallets so they are not sitting directly on the floor of your unit. In the event of a flood, leak etc. your items will be much better protected than if they come in direct contact with moisture.

Developing a system to organize your Security Self Storage unit has multiple benefits.  “Creative cramming” is what it is all about.  Being organized is a huge help, especially when you need that one item out of that one box.

Please see your location manager for more tips and helpful hints!  If you have an idea or a “creative cramming” tip, please let us know!
